October 17, 1966 Box #55 598

Until September 11th, 2001, October 17th, 1966 was the deadliest fire to ever strike the FDNY. A cellar fire cause an entire floor to collapse, killing at least one FDNY firefighter of every rank below Assistant Chief. Engine 18 was there and lost five of the twelve men killed that day, leaving the chauffer as the only survivor.
